Herbert R. Shea was awarded his master and PhD degrees in Physics at Harvard University, Cambridge. He is currently a full professor of EPFL and the President of the EuroEAP society. The main purpose of EuroEAP is to contribute to and promote the scientific and technological advancement and the diffusion of Transducers and Artificial Muscles based on Electromechanically Active Polymers (EAP). His researches cover soft robotics, wearable haptics, dielectric elastomer actuators (DEA) and polymer actuators etc. His lab develops reliable soft stretchable compliant sensors, actuators and transducers. Their research cuts across different MEMS and miniaturized actuator technologies, with a primary focus on elastomer-based solutions and multi-functional stretchable materials. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and according to Google Scholar, more than 9000 citations.
